Poverty. Everyone knows it exists, but in a sort of way that it sits in the back of our minds, and doesn't affect any of our conscious decisions. When you ask someone what they think about poverty in America, they'll talk about how it affects the lives of many, and allows them to not lead their lives fully. However, people don't realize just how acute an illness poverty is. They picture someone struggling along, trying to make ends meet. They don't picture the family without health care, any kind of insurance, money for anything except food and shelter, and inadequate necessities across the board. The family in which an illness or disease means you have to try that much harder to survive, as a day without pay correlates directly to a day without food.

TIP, I'm impressed that someone like you in a minimum wage job has such compassion for those who have even less than you do. I hope you set your sights higher than a career at Burger King, down the road... you could really make a difference in the world.
