Reflections on eating

I saw a homeless person on the street today on my way to work, with a sign begging for food. Then i arrived at work , and watched as people ate enough food for 3. It really stuck in my mind, the way that we eat, and what we eat, compared to those people who can't eat at all. To think that all the food that gets wasted, shoved down our throats, or simply thrown away in the kitchen could be feeding the starving puts a taint on the jolly american lifestyle. All the excess that we have here could be actually helping someone somewhere.

Or, we could continue going on the way we are going, shoving down double cheeseburger after double cheeseburger, and with an occasional kilo of frenchfries thrown in.

when people see homeless they often completely ignore them or feel nothing but sympathy. They either say something like that is so sad or they put their sad faces on yet they don't do anything, they just keep on walking. Why is this so? Why are we so careless? Can you blsme one, afterall the most of the world are condition to never really care? How can we train or set the mind to not feel just pure pitty but to try to think more about our actions.
